Our mental battles are not new to us.  It is my hope, that what can be new for you is how you approach them and how you mitigate their impact.

The thing I have learned about this inner chatter, this monkey mind…..this “I am not enough……” is that it is:

Not us, it is our parents, our grandparents, the kid in third grade that challenged us.

It is our “who am I to be more than……”

I’ve talked about the negative side of the “I am” statement before.  “I am” is great when placed in the positive (although, I’m not sure we believe all of the I am statements we create)

The reason the “I am” statement can be so impactful is because it describes who we are (or want to be) and is non-negotiable.

When used in the negative, such as “I am not enough”, it is still non-negotiable.  Continuing to use this example, when it comes to dealing with the shadow side of the “I am” it helps to remind yourself that you are enough, BUT, at this moment “not enough” is a behavior you are engaging in.

When you remove the ownership of a behavior, and put it into the context that it is a behavior I am doing, it now make it easier to change.

EXAMPLE:

“I am fat” or “I am beautiful and doing a behavior that is keeping me fat.”

“I am a smoker” or “I am strong and doing a behavior that is keeping me smoking.”

“I am so stupid” or “I am smart and acknowledge that there are some other things I still would like to learn.”

Which aspects of these statements feel better and feel like you have control….empowered?

Removing this aspect, this charge that your mental battle has over you is the first step.
